Why is Enceladus thought possibly habitable?
Enceladus shoots ice plumes from its south pole containing water vapor, salts and simple organics, evidence of a liquid ocean beneath the ice. Tidal heating supplies energy to that subsurface sea, and organics plus liquid water are the ingredients of life. Cassini detected life-relevant chemistry in the plumes.

Why did the Cassini mission choose to crash into Saturn at its end?
With its fuel nearly gone, Cassini might have drifted into Enceladus or Titan, moons that may hide subsurface oceans, risking contamination by Earth life. Scientists instead sent it plunging into Saturn's atmosphere to burn up, the 'Grand Finale'. This protected possibly habitable moons and gathered final atmospheric data.

What about Titan fascinates scientists?
Titan has a thick nitrogen atmosphere and lakes and rivers of liquid methane—the only body besides Earth with stable surface liquids—making it a natural lab for prebiotic chemistry.

What is unusual about Titan, Saturn's moon?
Titan is Saturn's largest moon and the only moon with a thick atmosphere, mainly nitrogen, and it has lakes and rivers of liquid methane on its surface. Its environment resembles early Earth and may offer conditions for life. The Cassini-Huygens mission even landed a probe there.

Why could Saturn float in water?
Saturn's average density is about 0.69 grams per cubic centimeter, less than water, so in theory it would float in a large enough bath. This is because it is made mostly of light gases like hydrogen and helium with no dense solid surface. Despite its huge size, it is relatively 'light'.
