多数研究认为“板片拖曳”（slab pull）最重要：俯冲带密度大的板片沉入地幔，像拉窗帘一样把后面整块板块往下拽；其次还有洋中脊的“脊推”和地幔对流的拖带。
Most studies rank slab pull as the top force: the dense subducting slab sinks into the mantle and drags the rest of the plate along, like pulling a curtain; ridge push and mantle drag also contribute.
