What was Roman concrete?
Roman concrete mixed volcanic ash, lime, and rubble; in seawater it formed rare minerals that made it harder over time, so harbor structures survive millennia. Its mechanism differs from modern cement and is studied again to make durable, low-carbon concrete.

What are the mechanics of the Hanging Temple?
The Hanging Temple is built on a Hengshan cliff; wooden beams inserted into rock cross-holes and wedged form cantilever supports that transfer loads into the mountain. Sited in a recessed crag, it avoids wind and rain and thus weathering. This three-religion temple has stood 1,500 years.

What was Roman road engineering?
Roman roads used layered construction: large stone foundation, rubble, and fitted surface stones, with drainage camber and straight alignment. They linked the empire's provinces, and some roadbeds remain solid today. The saying 'all roads lead to Rome' comes from this.
