Why do village "feng shui woods" preserve biodiversity?
Traditionally seen as "dragon veins," these woods were taboo to cut, so they were left intact for generations—becoming refuges for native trees, birds and insects and protecting diversity by accident.

Why are old feng shui woods especially rich in ancient trees?
The belief in "not disturbing the ancestral grove" spared big trees, and the undisturbed, moist understory let them grow old; such giants are themselves "apartments" for many species.

Why do many villages refuse to cut the woods at their entrance?
Elders call it the "feng shui wood" and say it must not be touched; though superstitious, the rule protected a patch of forest that benefits birds, fungi, soil and water.
