What are natural law and legal positivism in jurisprudence?
Natural law holds there are universal principles based on reason or morality above enacted law, and unjust laws may lack true legal validity; legal positivism holds a law's validity comes from its enactment process and sources, separate from moral rightness. Their debate centers on whether law and morality are necessarily linked.

What core answer did H.L.A. Hart give to “what is law” in “The Concept of Law”?
In 1961 Hart argued that law is a system of social rules combining “primary rules” (imposing duties) and “secondary rules” (governing how rules are made, changed, and adjudicated), emphasizing the “internal point of view.” He thereby critiqued Austin’s simplistic “command” theory.

Why does 'stare decisis' (following precedent) make rulings more stable in common law?
'Stare decisis' requires courts to follow earlier decisions by higher or same courts in similar cases, ensuring 'like cases are treated alike.' It makes law predictable and curbs arbitrary discretion, while still allowing precedent to be overruled when clearly wrong.

What kind of abuse does 'habeas corpus' protect people against?
Habeas corpus compels the government to bring a detained person before a court and justify the detention, or release them. Rooted in Magna Carta (1215) and enacted in the Habeas Corpus Act of 1679, it is an ancient safeguard against arbitrary imprisonment.
