Why is “cash is king” often cited in uncertain times?
In uncertainty, asset prices can crash and become hard to sell; cash is the most liquid, ready to pay and to buy the dip. But it is eroded by inflation, so it is a trade-off, not absolute.

What is “inflation tax” and how does it differ from a normal tax?
An inflation tax is not levied directly; it is the silent erosion of cash holders’ purchasing power from money over-issue—an implicit tax on cash. It never appears on a tax bill yet genuinely cuts wealth.

What is the difference between “nominal” and “real” interest rates?
Nominal rate is the stated rate; real rate subtracts inflation: real ≈ nominal − inflation. When inflation exceeds the nominal rate, real rate is negative and deposits shrink in real terms.

Where does the tax we pay roughly go?
Taxes mainly fund public services: education, health, infrastructure, defense, social security, and administration. Structures differ by country, but most go to shared public goods.

What is a credit card “interest-free period”?
Between purchase and due date, if you pay in full you usually pay no interest—that gap is the grace period. Used well it aids short-term cash flow, but paying only the minimum incurs interest.

How does RMB appreciation or depreciation affect ordinary travelers?
A stronger currency buys more foreign money, making travel and study abroad cheaper; a weaker one does the opposite. Exchange moves mainly affect cross-border spending, less directly domestic prices.

Why is interest on a checking account barely noticeable?
Checking-account rates are usually far below inflation, so real purchasing power may even fall; the interest feels tiny. Its job is liquidity, not growth.

Why do exchange “buy” and “sell” rates differ?
Banks and exchanges earn a service fee from the spread, so at any moment they buy foreign currency low and sell it high. This spread is their normal profit.

What is “credit” and why does paying on time matter?
Credit is your record and ability to repay debts. Paying on time builds a good score that lowers future borrowing costs; defaults leave a bad record affecting loans, rentals, even jobs.

Why keep receipts and invoices properly?
Invoices are proof of purchase and tax, useful for warranty, returns, reimbursement, and rights claims. E-invoices are easier to keep, but still guard against loss and double claims.

Why is saving-first-before-spending repeatedly encouraged?
Saving before spending builds an emergency buffer for job loss or surprises and reduces debt risk. It is a basic habit of personal financial health.
