Why do 'equality' and 'efficiency' often pull against each other?

Strong redistribution and equalization can dampen incentives to work, invest and innovate, potentially slowing productive efficiency. Conversely, pure efficiency lets inequality grow, so societies must constantly trade off how much equality to sacrifice for growth, and vice versa.

Why does 'common sense' differ so much across societies?

Common sense is not universal intuition but the accumulated, taken-for-granted knowledge of a specific culture, learned from childhood through language, norms and environment. What feels 'obvious' reflects local history and practice, so it varies widely between societies.

Why does society need politeness between strangers?

In cities we meet countless strangers daily; politeness (yielding a seat, saying thanks) is a cheap 'safety valve' preventing friction from escalating. It makes dense coexistence bearable and predictable.

Why do festivals boost community cohesion?

Festivals pull people from daily roles to prepare, eat and parade together, making shared memory and talk. More shared experience makes neighbors treat each other as 'our own'.

Why do people like watching the same match together?

Cheering or groaning together amplifies emotion and builds 'we root for the same team' belonging. A shared focus becomes a social bond, thinning loneliness with excitement.
