What role did al-Khwarizmi's Algebra play in the mathematics of Renaissance Europe?
Al-Khwarizmi's Al-Kitab al-Mukhtasar fi Hisab al-Jabr wa-l-Muqabala systematically presented solutions to linear and quadratic equations and coined the term algebra (al-jabr). Translated into Latin in the 12th century, it brought the Indo-Arabic numerals and equation-solving methods to Europe, directly spawning European algebra and the later symbolic-algebra revolution.

What profound impact did Emmy Noether's theorem on invariants have on modern mathematics and physics?
Noether's theorem proves that every continuous symmetry corresponds to a conserved quantity (time translation to energy, spatial translation to momentum). It unified group theory, the calculus of variations, and physical law, becoming the backbone of conservation laws and the Standard Model, while also deeply influencing ring theory in abstract algebra.

Why did the emergence of non-Euclidean geometry in the 19th century undermine the traditional belief that mathematical truth coincides with physical truth?
Around 1830, Lobachevsky and Bolyai independently constructed geometries in which infinitely many parallels pass through a point off a given line, and Beltrami later confirmed their consistency with the pseudosphere model. Since two mutually contradictory geometries are both self-consistent, the Kantian position that Euclid's axioms are a priori truths became untenable. Mathematicians thereafter treated axioms as deliberately chosen hypotheses, reducing mathematical truth to consistency within an axiom system.

Is the Chinese Gougu theorem equivalent to the Pythagorean theorem, and in which text did it first appear?
The Gougu theorem states that the sum of squares of the legs equals the square of the hypotenuse, $a^2+b^2=c^2$, mathematically equivalent to the Pythagorean theorem. In China it was first systematically recorded in the Zhoubi Suanjing, and Zhao Shuang of the Three Kingdoms era proved it with a xian tu diagram using the principle of dissection.

Why is the Fibonacci sequence so named, and how is it related to the Indian lion's march problem?
The Fibonacci sequence was introduced by Leonardo of Pisa (nicknamed Fibonacci) in Liber Abaci via a rabbit-breeding problem, with recurrence $F_n=F_{n-1}+F_{n-2}$. Similar recurrences appeared earlier in Indian mathematics (e.g. Pingala's prosody and the 12th-century lion's march problem), showing independent cross-cultural origins.

What is the concept of zero, and how was it invented in Indian mathematics and spread worldwide?
Zero as both a number and a placeholder was systematically used by Indian mathematicians around the 5th century CE, first treated with operational rules in Brahmagupta's works. Transmitted through Arab scholars such as al-Khwarizmi, the symbol and decimal place-value system reached Europe, laying the foundation of modern arithmetic.
